2015 has seen R.E.A.CH link with the charity Helping Uganda’s Schools (HUGs), another UK-based charity supporting the education of children in Uganda. HUGs helped to build the Good Shepherd Special Needs School in Fort Portal in 2008 and they continue to support the running of this school. Having visited the school ourselves in 2013 we were keen for R.E.A.CH to get involved.
As well as linking with HUGs, this year we have established a link between St Gabriel’s RC High school in Bury (long term supporters of R.E.A.CH) with The Good Shepherd Special Needs School. Sr Theresa visited St Gabriel’s RC School in Bury in spring of 2015 and took back almost 50 letters from year 7-9 children for her pupils. The children are sharing experiences of their lives in the UK and looking to learn about children’s lives in Uganda. We hope this will be the beginning of a long term learning partnership.
